Possible ‘active shooter’ at Salem Center mall in Oregon as cops hunt suspect after reports of gunfire
A POSSIBLE active shooter incident has been reported at Salem Center Mall in Oregon as cops flock to secure the scene.
The Salem Police Department and other local agencies responded to multiple calls about the possible shooting at around 2.15pm.
One male victim was found with a gunshot wound at a business located near High St. NE and Chemeketa St. NE, according to a press release from the Salem Police Department.
He was transported to Salem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
No additional victims were located as police swept through the nearby Salem Center Mall. Employees and customers were escorted out of the mall.
Police have not yet located a suspect and continue to investigate the incident.
The press release did state that there were no additional shots fired, as had initially been reported on social media.
"Streets in downtown are now opening. However, motorists and downtown visitors should expect a police presence in the area of the Salem Center Mall as the investigation continues," the Salem Police Department said.
They did not release any additional details or information.
The Salem Police Department had been keeping residents in the area informed via Twitter, sharing updates throughout the afternoon.

"UPDATE at 1510: Officers are clearing the Salem Center Mall at this time," the tweet reads. Liberty at Chemeketa ST NE closed and traffic is being routed west from Liberty. Avoid the area due at this time as the incident is still ongoing.
"Again this is NOT an active shooter incident. "
The police department had originally issued a tweet alerting residents of "increased police activity due to a report of shots fired."
First responders were tending to an individual shot outside of Columbia Bank, according to the Statesman Journal.
A shelter in place alert had been sent to local businesses in the downtown Salem area, but has since been canceled, the Salem Police Department said.
KGW News reports the Downtown Learning Center and Howard Street Charter School had been on lockdown due to police activity in the area.
The intersection mentioned by the Salem Police Department is not far from the Oregon State Capitol, where earlier today a truck convoy was held.
The Salem Police Department alerted residents that the convoy was impacting traffic in the area and encouraged people to "take alternate routes to avoid any delay in your travel through the city," according to their Twitter account.
The Salem Center Mall boasts more than 70 shops and restaurants in the central part of the city.
