Rampaging gunman killed after shooting six people – including firing eight bullets at a female police officer and using woman as a human shield
TWO cops and four members of the public were fired at by a rampaging gunman who has now been shot dead by responding officers.
Police Sergeant Sylvia Young was hit by eight bullets as she sat in her police car in the west of Philadelphia in the USA.
Both officers who were fired at are expected to recover but some of the gunman's other victims reportedly suffered more serious injuries.
Speaking about Ms Young's injuries, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said: "He just walks up on her, he just fired.
"He didn't say anything."
Mr Ross added that the suspect fired about 15 rounds into the cop's vehicle at roughly 11.20pm last night.
Nearby police officers heard the gunshots and chased the suspect on foot.
The gunman is said to have fired into a pub where a security took a bullet in the leg.
He reportedly then used a woman from the bar as a shield before shooting her.
Mr Ross said the attacker later fired into another car and seriously wounded a man and woman.
The chase came to end when the gunman exchanged fire with police in an alleyway.
A second offer was shot but the attacker was killed in the gun fight.
Mr Ross said: "We have a lot of unanswered questions, this is a completely bizarre situation."
