Mystery as tourist found clinging to a tree on a steep cliff goes missing AGAIN weeks after ‘miraculous’ rescue

A MISSING woman who was found clinging to a tree for dear life on a steep cliff has disappeared again, according to officials.

Gayle Stewart was dangling on a slope about 400 feet off a road when a family friend found her last month.

In a bizarre development, the 64-year-old Nevada woman is once again nowhere to be found.

Investigators say Stewart was last seen on March 14 in the Bypass Bridge parking area near the Hoover Dam, hundreds of miles from her Reno home.

“Stewart had traveled to the area to take photographs and did not return to her vehicle,” US Park Rangers said in a March 17 news release.

A spokesperson for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area confirmed that Stewart is the same woman who was reported missing weeks prior, on Valentine's Day.

Stewart's friends and family organized a search party for her during the investigation into her initial disappearance.

They found her trapped on a steep slope, where most people do not usually walk, in a hiking area near the Caughlin Ranch neighborhood, KRNV .

“Actually kind of a miracle story,” Seth Williams, Battalion Chief for the Reno Fire Department, said at the time.

“The son called up some friends to start searching for her and one of the boys just decided to head off this cliff thinking maybe she fell down there and found her clinging to a tree.

"He said the last thing she said was ‘help’ and then didn’t talk anymore.“

Photos showed an elaborate rescue by first responders, who used ropes and a basket to reach her.

Her rescuers said she was initially unresponsive and hypothermic to the point where she wasn’t shivering. 

It’s unknown how she ended up in the location.

Fire officials said that she may have fallen down the slope as she was missing a shoe when she was found and both legs had “quite a bit of trauma.”

The battalion chief said that Stewart became more responsive as she was taken into an ambulance.

“By the time we got her down to the vehicle, she was much more responsive and appeared to be more with it, but she was still completely uncommunicative,” he said.

“With the rain and the snow coming tonight, she’s already been exposed for the better part of 12 hours.

"It could have been a very different outcome had he not found her when he did."

Stewart eventually made a full recovery.

No updates have been released about her most recent disappearance following the public notice shared by park rangers.
