BOSSES at the HS2 rail link have splashed more than £2billion without laying an inch of track.

Critics of the £55billion line to link London with Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester say £35million a month is spent buying property in the East Midlands and Yorkshire.

Yet that phase is not due to open until 2033.

More cash goes on surveys. One farmer had 46 visits from officials this year to see bats and trees.

Protest leader Hilary Wharf said: “The view seems to be the more they spend, the more difficult it is to stop.”

MPs have yet to approve HS2 and a report has branded it “economically irresponsible”.
