Bringing back grammar schools risks undermining education progress, says sacked Education Secretary Nicky Morgan

The former Cabinet Minister also told how she had to help new PM Theresa May fire her

BRINGING back grammar schools was branded a “distraction” yesterday by sacked Education Secretary Nicky Morgan.

She said PM Theresa May’s reforms would not help areas with poor schools and risked undermining six years of work to improve standards.

Influential backbenchers and peers have also vowed to fight any comeback for grammars.

Ms Morgan told ITV’s Peston on Sunday yesterday how Mrs May struggled for words during her face-to-face sacking.

“I had to help her utter the phrase, ‘So you’d like to let me go’?”
