Horror moment ‘crazy’ kids caught on dashcam walking on footbridge cage 40 feet above motorway
THIS is the astonishing moment two daredevil kids are filmed strolling along the top of a caged footbridge 40ft above the busy M60 in Manchester.
The stomach-churning footage shows the pair risking certain death by walking along the metal covered mesh between junction 17 and 18 of the motorway.
The dashcam clip - which was filmed by a driver on Sunday afternoon - shows one boy leading the way for his pal behind.
The pair can be seen trying to keep their balance with their arms out at their sides as they cross the bridge,
And the driver who caught the jaw-dropping footage on dashcam said he was completely stunned to see the stunt.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News, the man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “I have been driving for 40 years and have never anything as crazy as that in all my life.
“I was with my wife and we couldn’t believe what we were seeing, we just said ‘Good grief, look at that’. We think the first person is a young male possibly with a female behind him.
“What is scary is there is a real danger of them falling off, but also a real danger and distraction to those driving below who were watching it.
“Doing that could have killed themselves, or other road users.”
The cage is placed over the bridge to prevent people throwing items onto the carriageway beneath and protect pedestrians crossing the motorway.
But this pair had somehow managed to clamber on top of the rounded cage.
The driver added: “It was petrifying really, because all it would take is a gust of wind and they would have been off. There was nothing to grab hold onto to.
"I wanted to make people aware of it. I felt I had a duty to show just how dangerous this is.”
A spokeswoman for Highways England said it was ‘dangerous and stupid’ of the pair.
She said: “Bridge canopies are in place to protect pedestrians from the risk of falling in dangerous settings. They are not meant to be climbed on or jumped on.
“This is dangerous and stupid behaviour that puts the two pedestrians and drivers below at serious risk of injury or death.
