DISTURBING dashcam video captures the moment a driver narrowly avoided a "drunk" pedestrian walking down a 50mph road in pitch darkness.

David Wright spotted was the man's bright white trainers glaring back at him as he rounded a right-hand bend.

With just one second to manoeuvre, the driver managed to swerve around the pedestrian before letting out a string of expletives in relief.

His near miss came on Long Drive in Irvine, Ayrshire, at around 4am on Sunday September 11.

David, from Irvine, said: "My first thoughts were that of sheer panic.

"I had trouble sleeping that night.

"I spotted the man's shoes first with them being white, after a short moment I noticed the outline of a person and dived out of the way as soon as I could.

"The speed limit of that particular road was 50mph.

"I think if it were any higher then I wouldn't have had enough time to react and the outcome could've been much worse.

"I did not have main beam on, only dipped headlights, I admit I should've been using main beam up until I see the oncoming car.

"Afterwards I thought how drunk must you have to be to even consider walking on an unlit road at that time of night.

"After I narrowly avoided him I looked in my mirror to try and see him, but it was simply too dark to see."
