THE US embassy in Oslo, Norway has been evacuated after a suspicious package found sparked a bomb scare before it was dramatically diffused.

Norwegian police rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the suspect item in a nearby construction site.

The suspicious package has now been neutralised by brave bomb squad officers.

Officers are now working to establish whether the package, which was found in a container, posed a danger to the public.

A police spokeswoman confirmed the bomb squad were on the scene.

She said: "The bomb squad is at the site, investigating the discovery."

The US remains on high alert after a series of attacks across New York and New Jersey.

A suspect has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a series of blasts went off yesterday.

A manhunt for Afghan-born Ahmad Kham Rahami, 28, was launched after his fingerprints were found on an unexploded bomb in New York.

Christian Krohn was at the site when the alarm was raised.

He said construction workers alerted police to the suspect item at around 10.30 local time.

Christian refused to describe the object but said it was "likely to cause fear".
