Boy nearly loses his eye after tripping into a ‘broken trolley’ at Asda and suffering deep gash to his forehead
Barry Jenkins' tiny son Tommy had to be rushed to hospital after the accident and was said to have been screaming and 'covered in blood'
A DISTRAUGHT dad has slammed Asda claiming his three-year-old boy was left with a horrific puncture wound after slipping over and smacking his head on a broken trolley.
Barry Jenkins' tiny son Tommy had to be rushed to hospital after the accident and was said to have been screaming and "covered in blood".
Mr Jenkins claims he hit his head on one of two metal rods that should have been part of the structure of the trolley but had broken off.
The 29-year-old and his young son were walking past an Asda in Ashford, Kent, when the youngster tripped.
Mr Jenkins said: "Tommy is only three so just fell over the way young kids do.
"But there was a trolley with two of the bars sticking out where it was broken.
"He smacked his head on one of the rods and it went straight into his head and left a horrific wound.
"It is lucky that those poles weren't a bit lower as it would honestly have taken his eye out.
"It could also have punctured his skull because he's only three and his head isn't as strong as ours."

Dad-of three Mr Jenkins, who lives with his family in Ashford, Kent, said his son was covered in blood and screaming after the fall.
He also claims Asda first aid staff were unable to help and an ambulance wasn't called for 20 minutes.
When Tommy was taken to hospital after the accident on Thursday, September 15, he had to have two stitches which have since been removed.
When asked about how Asda dealt with the problem, Barry said: "They don't care.
"They offered me a £25 voucher to cheer him up.
"I phoned the store to speak to the manager.
"He was interested at all, he was just rude and dismissive, and in the end he said 'OK you take it further.'"
He added: "I'm angry at the whole way Asda handled this.
"No apologies at all.
"They have claim that CCTV was facing the other way and that there was no broken trolley outside the store."
Tommy has now recovered after the ordeal but Mr Jenkins has said he was still complaining about the pain for days afterwards.
An Asda spokesperson said: "We are taking this matter very seriously and will remain in contact with the family as we investigate further to understand what happened. Our very best wishes are with this little customer at this time and we hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
"We work hard to create a safe and welcoming environment for our customers and always do everything we can to address any incidents that happen in our stores.
"As soon as our colleagues were made aware of this incident they acted quickly to support the customer and provide first aid, while also calling an ambulance which arrived at the scene shortly afterwards."
