What is happening in New York City right now?
AN INVESTIGATION is underway for a man who opened fire in a New York City subway on April 12, 2022.
The NYPD and the FDNY are working together to find the shooter who injured multiple people at the scene.

What happened in New York City?
A shooting occurred at about 8.30am in a Brooklyn subway, leaving at least 16 people injured.
The victims are reported to have non-life-threatening injuries at this time.
The shooter opened fire at the 36th Street and Fourth Avenue subway station leaving commuters running to catch connecting trains.
A police spokesperson said in a press conference there are "no known explosive devices on subway trains now" and they are not considering the shooting to be an "act of terrorism."

The spokesperson said the shooting occurred on a Manhattan-bound N train. The man was on the train car and "put on a gas mask, took a canister out of his bag and a train filled w smoke and he opened fire on the subway and platform."
The police are asking for public help from anyone with information, videos, and photos to call 800-577-TIPS.
The former NYPD Chief, Terence Monahan said in a live interview with ABC 4 News that at this time it is an "extremely active investigation," adding that it "looks pretty sinister at this point in time."

Who is the shooter?
The NYPD is describing the shooter as a black male, 5 feet 5 inches, and is a heavy build.
He was wearing a green construction vest and a gray hooded sweatshirt.
The man is still on the run and Monahan said police and investigators are "scouring every piece of video in this city," to find the person responsible.
Law enforcement sources told they believe he acted alone and said the man was reportedly spotted throwing "a smoke canister" in the subway station before opening fire.
What is the response to the shooting?
Clair, a witness who asked to go only by her first name, told the that she was riding the Manhattan-bound N train when so many rounds were fired that she “lost count.”
“There was like, lots of them. I don’t even know how many,” she told the Post.

The man is still on the run and police are continuing to search in the Brooklyn subway tunnels and above ground.
President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation unfolding at the Brooklyn subway station and is communicating with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
