Gar-Field Senior High School shooting sees victim airlifted from fair as officers rush to Woodbridge, Virginia

A SHOOTING at a Virginia fair led to chaos on Friday as one person was airlifted to an area hospital.

The victim was flown from Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, where a carnival was being held, Prince William County police said.

Although an identity has not been released, police believe the victim is a teenage girl, and the shooter was a man who drove away in a car, reports .

The condition of the victim is still unknown, but she was conscious when she was flown to the hospital.

Authorities say the teenager suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body.

Investigators at the scene found shell casings on the ground outside the school.

Police told the family and parents of those at the carnival to wait across the street for more information.

The school's football field was used as a landing pad for the helicopter that took the victim to a trauma center.

Police said that the carnival was being hosted by the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club.

Social media users on reacted to the news with some saying that they heard the gunshots and assumed it was fireworks.

The investigation was said to be ongoing.
