The rescue team used drones to search for two hours with no success.

When there was no sign of Henry the next day, his owners feared the worst.

But on Sunday locals reported a barking dog in Boscastle, Cornwall.

Rescuers found Henry 20ft down a fissure near where he was last seen at the Strangles on the South West Coast Path.

A “cliff technician” was sent to retrieve Henry with half a sausage roll and some treats.

Boscastle Coastguard team said: “After 30 minutes of shuffling and squeezing and some lassoing, we managed to get a lead around the dog and pull him to safety to the overjoyed and happy owners.”

The team were praised online.

One person posted: “Henry’s owners were out every day he was missing for hours at a time searching and never gave up hope. Thank you to all involved in making this a happy ending.”
