Man robbed £400 from a Tesco store after convincing staff he was their new manager – despite wearing flip-flops and t-shirt

A MAN wearing flip-flops and shorts pinched more than £400 after turning up at a Tesco and convincing staff he was the new store manager.

Danny Mawer robbed the store in Cheshunt, Herts, in a "spur of the moment decision", St Albans Magistrates Court heard.

JPs heard how the 32-year-old, of Hertford, Herts, looked "nothing like a store manager" when he stole the cash on July 12 this year.

The court heard on September 16 how Mawer "hadn't planned" the con, but decided "on the spur of the moment", telling staff it was an "emergency" and he needed the money immediately.

Mawer confessed to fraud by impersonation and was ordered to pay £420 in compensation to Tesco as well as an £80 fine.
