The Year Six teacher set upon Gavin Young following an evening out with colleagues to celebrate the end of term on July 19.

Victim Mr Young said: "She started being abusive about a young woman who attended the hall.

"I can't repeat the exact words but it was vulgar.

"I would describe her as hysterical."

Prosecutor Alex Scott said Beresford grabbed Mr Young by the throat for "two or three seconds".

Swansea magistrates heard Mr Young had a cut to his neck following the attack and police were called.

Beresford, of Sketty, Swansea, faces losing her job at Townhill Community School, Swansea, after being found guilty of assault.

David Singh, defending, said: "She has not covered herself in glory that day. Quite the contrary, she behaved appallingly.

"There is no question she was acting as a nuisance. She had consumed alcohol and her language was choice.

"She accepts she behaved utterly appallingly, and there will be jeopardy caused to her job."

Chairman of magistrates Richard Stafford ordered Beresford to pay a £600 fine and £50 compensation to Mr Young.
