Man, 30, arrested after two-year-old lad seriously injured in motorbike hit-and-run crash

A MAN has been arrested after a two-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run.

The little lad was mowed down and rushed to hospital after being hit by the motorbike in Ince, Wigan.

A 30-year-old man was today arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Police said he was also being held on suspicion of having no licence or insurance - and for failing to stop at the scene of the serious collision.

He remains in custody for questioning.

The horror hit-and-run left the young child in hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

He was hit by the motorbike as he was walking on Petticoat Lane just after midday on April 13.

Police said that their investigation is ongoing - but did not give an update on the toddler's condition.

In a statement, GMP Wigan West said today: "Officers from the Wigan and Leigh District Tasking Team have this afternoon arrested a 30-year-old male on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.

"He remains in police custody for questioning.

"These allegations relate to a road traffic collision that occurred on April 13 on Petticoat Lane, Ince.

"Emergency services were called at 12.16pm to a report of a collision involving a blue Suzuki GS 500 motorcycle and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a two-year-old child was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"Whilst this male has now been arrested, the investigation remains in its early stages."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added at the time: "We responded to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and an infant following a 999 call at 12.20.

"A boy has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries."
