Police were called to the hospital on Friday evening where the man, 56, was tragically found dead.

It is believed medics had been approached by a man who then threw keys at them before telling them that a man was dead "in the back" of the car.

He told them it was his brother, according to sources.

NHS workers called 999 and the body of the 56-year-old was found in the vehicle - which was parked near the entrance to A&E.

The 43-year-old suspect from Tamworth was then arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

A source told The Sun: “This has created a huge amount of shock. The staff are very upset.

“He just threw the keys at a member of staff, dropped the news and then left the hospital site.”

Police maintained a large cordon around the car until Saturday afternoon.

The vehicle has been taken away by officers who are carrying out a forensic search of it.

West Midlands Police said on Saturday: “Our investigation into the death of a 56-year-old man from Kingstanding, Birmingham continues.

“His body was found in a car at Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield on Friday 22 April. His family have been told the sad news.

“A post mortem examination will take place as soon as possible. This will help us to understand what caused the man’s unexplained death.

“A 43-year-old man from Tamworth was arrested on Friday evening in Birmingham on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.

“The car has been removed for more detailed forensic examination and the area of the car park we closed off reopened.”

It remains unclear how the 56-year-old victim passed away.
