CAT LOVER

I married MY CAT to stop landlords forcing me to get rid of her – I can’t be without her

A MUM has married her cat — to stop landlords forcing her to give up the pet.

Deborah Hodge, 49, tied the knot with India in a park ceremony presided over by a legally ordained pal.

The single mum was decked out in a tuxedo, with India in gold lamé, meowing through the vows.

Deborah claimed landlords over the years forced her to rehome two huskies and a cat — and she was desperate to avoid a repeat.

She said: “I can’t be without India. She is truly a sensation, she is so friendly and amazing. She is fundamentally the most important thing in my life after my children.”

Deborah lost her job as a coach last month and fears she may be evicted from her home in Sidcup, South East London.

And she wants future landlords to know she and India will not be separated.

Deborah, who got married in a civil ceremony in a local park last week, left, said: “I had a group of friends there.

"They think I’ve gone bats*** crazy but we all had a lovely day.

“My kids weren’t there, they just think mummy has lost the plot!”

The mum of two has had India since 2017 but the feline lost a leg when hit by a car in 2020.

She said: “I don’t believe in organised religion. However, I do have faith. India always came back, even after losing a leg. I’m her universe and that’s why I married her.”
