Back in 2019, Klein, who was assigned to Ladder Co 179, gave a eulogy for firefighter Steven Pollard who was killed at the scene of a car crash when he fell through a gap in the roadway.
“Steven Pollard died not thinking of himself but trying to help others,” said Klein at the time.
"We lost a true hero that night. It breaks my heart to know that the days working alongside you are over …You will never be forgotten.”
Klein was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said official sources.
Five other firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said the mayor.
