Brooklyn fire latest – Inside how FDNY firefighter Timothy Klein, 31, gave eulogy before death in blaze which injured 8

A BLAZE in Brooklyn, New York resulted in the death of one firefighter and nearly a dozen others injured Sunday afternoon.

Timothy Klein, 31, had reportedly become separated from his comrades while fighting the flames and may have suffered cardiac arrest inside the home in Canarsie.

The three-alarm fire broke out just after 1:30pm and over 100 FDNY members worked to stop the flames, said a spokesperson.

Crews are still searching for a 21-year-old man with autism who lives at the home and is unaccounted for.

“New York City has lost one of its bravest,” said Mayor Eric Adams at Brookdale Hospital

FDNY Acting Chief of Dept. John Hodgens said, “Timothy lost his life doing his job that was asked him every day.

 “Everything seemed to be going routine when suddenly the entire second floor became engulfed in flames.”

“I cannot describe the heartbreak of the FDNY today to have lost a member doing what our members do best,” said Acting FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. “Putting their lives on the line to save others.

HEARTWRENCHING EULOGY

Back in 2019, Klein, who was assigned to Ladder Co 179, gave a eulogy for firefighter Steven Pollard who was killed at the scene of a car crash when he fell through a gap in the roadway.

“Steven Pollard died not thinking of himself but trying to help others,” said Klein at the time.

"We lost a true hero that night. It breaks my heart to know that the days working alongside you are over …You will never be forgotten.”

Klein was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said official sources.

Five other firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries, said the mayor.

Two civilians were also injured during the incident. All were taken to area hospitals, but their conditions are not immediately known at this time.
