Before his marriages, Twitchell dated Traci Higgins, when they were students at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in the late 1990s.
She ended the relationship, however, after discovering Twitchell had repeatedly lied to her.
Traci told the court during Twitchell’s trial: “At some point, I didn’t really believe or trust anything he was saying.”

Twitchell’s first wife was Megan Casterella, from Illinois, US.
The couple married in January 4, 2001, but the relationship ended in 2005.
