Asda shopper left ‘violently ill’ after discovering foul-smelling brown sludge inside unopened apple juice carton
Naomi Searson now refuses to shop at Asda after being left waiting for answers by the supermarket giant for months
A WOMAN claims she was left gagging after discovering a horrific smelling brown "sludge" in her Asda-brand apple juice.
The frustrated shopper has since been left waiting six months for answers from the supermarket giant - despite the drink making her husband violently ill.
Naomi Searson, 24, had her usual groceries, including cartons of apple juice, home delivered to her Sheffield in January when she realised something was wrong.
She said she and husband Ben, 25, had been unpacking their groceries when they noticed one of the cartons was dented, with the couple assuming it had been knocked while being brought into the house.
Naomi said the couple decided to drink that juice first, with her husband pouring himself a quick glass of juice while making dinner.
But the pre-occupied cooker was left vomiting when he took a swig of the apple juice – with the couple finding an unrecognisable 6 to 7cm sludgy object appearing when they examined the carton.
Naomi said: “My husband poured a drink without looking while cooking and the next thing I knew, he was being violently sick.”
She said she ran into the kitchen and saw the glass, started pouring the juice out in the sink, with a “horrendous smell” coming out.
She told The Sun Online: “It was absolutely disgusting. I think it was an animal but it was just all sludge and disgusting.”
But the saga was only beginning, with the 24-year-old still fighting for answers with Asda about what caused the apple juice carton to be left in such a stomach-churning condition.
She said: "The first thing we did was phone Asda and the home delivery team told us it was a product issue and then the product team told us it was a home delivery issue.
"They then told me to keep the item – so I was expected to keep this foul-smelling thing in my house for an indefinite time until they could figure something out."

Eventually, Naomi went to her local Asda store to try to return the carton but was hit with more barriers.
She said: “I walked down to our local store and said ‘I’m not keeping this’.
“You could tell they were trying to get me out of the store because I was carrying this foul-smelling carrier bag. The manager tried to give me a bunch of flowers for an apology – but I didn’t want flowers, I wanted something to be done about it.”
The determined young woman was even forced to argue with Asda about whether she should get a refund for the disgusting product.
She said: “They said they would sent it away for testing and would get back to me.
“I tried chasing it up for six months but no one would take responsibility for it and I just kept being passed around.”
She said she now refused to shop with Asda, with her husband unable to drink apple juice since.
She said: “It’s just so frustrating – I was having to ring on my breaks at work which is taking up my time, and I just kept being told different information from different people and passed back and forth.”
An Asda spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for Ms Searson’s experience, which fell below our own high-standards.
"We are picking this up with Ms Searson as a matter of priority to investigate what happened."
