SARAH Ferguson has revealed pals feared she would commit suicide after her divorce from Prince Andrew.
The Duchess of York, 56, split from the Queen’s son, 56, in 1992 before their divorce was finalised four years later.
And at an event in London’s China Exchange on Thursday, she spoke of the agonising extent of her suffering during the public storm that followed.
She said: “I did not want to come out of the room. One of my good friends who was looking after me, she thought every time she came into the room I would have committed suicide.
“It was when the world saw a huge public humiliation and I think those experiences have made me much stronger.
“There was a moment when I was under the bed. I did not even watch The Smurfs with my daughters.”
And Fergie revealed it was her daughters who gave her the will to continue.
“What happened was a friend Sally came into the room and took the duvet off and she threw back the window and said: ‘Take your children to school.’
“It was because of my two girls that I decided that it was important to get on. I feel that I am very strong about my message now which is to experience life.
“I have a pure heart of joy and I have just realised at the age of 56 that it is OK to be yourself.”
