A NEW Dateline episode will talk about the murder of an Oregon woman that had a shocking twist.

At the time, the suspect was able to elude police for more than a year before she was finally sentenced to life in prison.

Who was Annastasia 'Annie' Hester and what happened to her?

Annastasia 'Annie' Hester was an Oregon native born in 1981.

To most, she was an ordinary woman who stayed out of trouble, but she made headlines in 2016 after she called 911 to report that she had been attacked in her apartment.

“Someone tried to kill me … [unintelligible] started stabbing me," Hester was heard saying during the call that was later obtained by .

When the dispatcher asked where she had been stabbed, she replied, “All over … Oh God.”

After authorities arrived at her Gresham apartment, they found her with multiple stab wounds and quickly rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Who killed Annastasia Hester?

Following Hester's death, a police investigation was opened, which lasted for more than a year.

It was not until 2017 that police arrested Angela McCraw-Hester in connection with her death.

McCraw-Hester is the wife of Matthew Hester, Annastasia's ex-husband and the father of her daughter.

At the time, Hester and her ex-husband were reportedly in the middle of a custody battle after he claimed that she was an unfit mother, Oxygen reports.

Annastasia had previously been given full custody of their daughter amid the divorce and worked a full-time job to support her daughter.

At the same time, Matthew and his new wife survived on government assistance, Oxygen notes.

Despite suspicion from the police, McCraw-Hester was not arrested until October 2017.

At the time, she was charged with aggravated murder and first-degree burglary after her DNA was identified at the crime scene, according to .

Police were also able to match a bloody boot print to a pair of shoes McCraw-Hester had purchased in 2015, Oxygen notes.

After McCraw-Hester was arrested, she was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.

Hester's ex-husband was also arrested in June 2019 and later pleaded guilty in July 2021 to solicitation to commit murder and hindering prosecution, according to .

He was then sentenced to 56 months in prison and will be eligible for release in March 2023.
