At some point, Allan and Candy initiated a secret affair behind Betty and Pat's backs.

Betty eventually caught on to the affair and a confrontation ensued after Candy paid her a visit pertaining to their children.

The day of the confrontation between the two former friends happened on June 13, 1980.

On Friday, June 13, the argument between Betty and Candy ended with the former school teacher being on the receiving end of 41 axe wounds.

Weeks later on June 27, Candy was arrested and charged with her murder.

Months later in October, Betty's assailant stood trial for her murder - which Candy admitted to.

After claiming she acted in self-defence, Candy was acquitted of all of the charges stemming from Betty's murder.
