Schoolboy ‘slashed in the neck’ as 100 children mob busy shopping mall

Lewisham Shopping Centre, in South London, was closed following the vicious daylight attack

A SCHOOLBOY was slashed across the neck in front of horrified shoppers after 100 school kids descended on a south London mall.

The Lewisham Shopping Centre was evacuated by police after the victim, said to be 16, was brutally knifed at 4.40pm yesterday afternoon.

Witnesses told how the victim ran screaming for help before slumping outside the Poundland store covered in blood.

One said: “There was 100 schoolchildren crowding around each other and all over the place. Everyone was shocked and most people were hysterical.”

Police said they were called to reports of a stabbing at 4.40pm, and the victim was taken to an east London hospital, reportedly by air ambulance, where he is now in a stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

Onlookers described on social media how blood could be seen at the shopping centre.

One user wrote: "Pools of blood around the centre, it's disgusting, seriously hope the boy is alright."

Meanwhile, a Lewisham resident told the : “I met a friend at the entrance who works in the centre and she said the floor was covered in a pool of blood.

“She said a schoolboy had been stabbed right in the middle of the shopping centre.

“Everyone was immediately evacuated and the alarms were turned on.”

A London Ambulance spokeswoman said: "We were called at 4.42pm to reports of a stabbing on Lewisham High Street today.

"We sent multiple resources to the scene including an incident response officer, an ambulance crew , two fast response cars and London's Air Ambulance, with the first of our staff arriving in seven minutes.

"A male was sent as priority to a major trauma centre."

The attack victim was today said to be in a stable condition.

Police said no arrests have been made and appealed for witnesses to call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
