Girl, 17, has face savaged by dog in park as she tried to help owner fix its harness

A TEENAGE girl has suffered serious facial injuries after she was attacked by a dog last night.

The 17-year-old was hurt as she tried to help the animal's owner fix its harness, it's reported.

Cops and paramedics dashed to Navigation Park in Altrincham, Greater Manchester at around 9pm.

It is understood a man, aged around 70, was walking with a dog in the park.

The victim was trying to put the dog's harness back on when it suddenly attacked her.

She suffered a significant injury to her mouth and cheek, it's reported.

Police have now called for help to track down the dog and its owner.

In a post on Greater Manchester Police's Trafford South Facebook page, officers described the owner as a white male who is around 5ft 9in tall.

He was described as being unstable on his feet.

At the time the girl was bitten, he was wearing a long, brown leather jacket with a bobble hat.

He also had a walking stick, the appeal added.

The dog was described as being mostly white.

It looked similar to a Labrador but was thought to have been crossed with another breed and had ginger fur on its back.

The animal is skinny and "fairly young" - around two-years-old, cops say.

It had a red harness.

Officers investigating the attack said: "The female had been helping the owner put the dog’s harness on when the dog has bitten her to the face."

They said the girl suffered a "substantial injury to her mouth and her cheek", and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
