Tesco won’t deliver to my static home because caravans make drivers feel unsafe – it’s discrimination

A WOMAN has slammed Tesco after it refused to deliver shopping to her static home because caravans make drivers "feel unsafe".

Furious Wendy Marks, 53, accused the supermarket of discrimination, claiming she was told employees are scared to deliver to mobile homes.

The bonded warehouse worker says she has routinely used Tesco's home delivery service over the last six months with no problems.

She said the drivers were always "courteous and polite" and never raised any issues about her "lovely and quiet little community" at Mayfield Park in West Drayton, West London.

So Wendy was left baffled when her delivery did not arrive during her allotted time slot between 3pm and 4pm on April 26.

After checking the online tracker, she says it had been logged that her driver had tried to deliver her order at 2.40pm, but she wasn't home to accept it.

But the 53-year-old claims she specifically schedules her deliveries on her day off due to working 12-hour shifts - so she had sat in all day waiting for it.

As she doesn't drive, Wendy struggles to get to her local Tesco supermarket and says the bus journey ends up more expensive than paying for home delivery.

The customer explained she managed to get through to the Tesco Yeading store via the company's helpline, but was left shocked by their response.

She claims they told her "they no longer deliver to ‘caravan parks’ as the drivers felt unsafe" after an incident at a nearby site, Mansion Lane.

Wendy emphasised that her home was not located on a 'caravan park', and explained it is in fact a static home residential park.

She told : ";Why did no one even have the courtesy to phone me to advise the delivery would not be happening?

"They just left me sitting there all afternoon waiting."

The 53-year-old says she was confused as to why Tesco were "discriminating against every other home park in the area" after the isolated incident elsewhere.

Wendy demanded Tesco send out her shopping after her bill had already been taken from her bank account.

She eventually received the delivery at 10.30am the next day, but says the "driver made a big show of constantly looking over his shoulder."

The shopper claims he told her "he was being cautious", leaving her even more furious about the misconceptions regarding her area.

I’m really disappointed. I’ve had to move to using other supermarket home delivery services and I would be put off using Tesco again.

She said: "It’s beautiful - it’s like living in the countryside. It’s the quietest residential area I’ve ever known.

"Each home is immaculate - they’re really looked after, they’re stunning places.”

Wendy has since sent a lengthy complaint to the store before getting in touch with Tesco's head office, but claims she was again fobbed off.

Bosses allegedly told her that it is up to the individual stores to decide where they will deliver to.

She fumed: "It’s a joke. I’ve had no compensation for my wasted time.

"I’m really disappointed. I’ve had to move to using other supermarket home delivery services and I would be put off using Tesco again."

Deliveries have since resumed at all home parks in the area.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: "We’re really sorry for the misunderstanding that led to Ms Marks’ not receiving her grocery order.

"We have reviewed the store’s delivery locations and are delivering to customers in both Mayfield Park and Mansion Lane."
