Boy, 11, breaks world record by catching fish that weighed over 96lbs
A BOY of 11 reeled in a carp weighing just 4lbs lighter than he is — and almost twice the size of his dad’s best catch.
Callum Pettit broke the world record by a junior angler on a fishing trip to France with his father Stuart and some friends.
Neither realised quite how big it was because the water was murky — but the monster common carp tipped the scales at 96lb 10ozs.
Callum said: “I couldn’t believe how big it was and my arms were really aching.”
Stuart, 40, added: “He played the fish for about 20 minutes, slowly pulling it up and winding it towards him.
"We didn’t have any idea of the size of it until we got it into the net.

“It is a once-in-a lifetime fish and Callum caught it aged 11.”
The 7st 2lb youngster lured in the fish, nicknamed Big Girl, at a lake near Reims, using his special banoffee-flavoured bait.
They were woken in their tent at 6am when Callum’s rod alarm signalled he had a bite.
Footage from Stuart’s GoPro camera shows other anglers gathering around to watch the landing, while Callum, from Ashford, Kent, repeats: “That’s massive, Dad.”

Just a handful of adult anglers have ever caught a bigger specimen, with the overall common carp record standing at 101lb 6ozs.
Callum’s biggest previous catch was a 29lb mirror carp.
