Woman in her 60s killed and three others fighting for life after horror two-car crash

A WOMAN in her 60s has died and three other people are fighting for their lives following a horrific two-car crash.

The collision happened on the A470 in north Wales at around 4.45pm between the villages of Dolwyddelan and Betws-y-Coed in Conwy.

A cream-coloured Renault Captur and a beige coloured vintage Daimler were involved in the crash.

The female passenger in the Daimler was pronounced dead at the scene, the police said.

The male driver of the Daimler and the front seat passenger from the Renault have been airlifted to hospital in Stoke by the Air Ambulance.

The Royal Stoke University Hospital is home to a Major Trauma Centre for serious injuries.

All three have serious, life-threatening injuries.

Officers from North Wales Police were in attendance as well as fire crews, three road ambulances and two air ambulances.

Cops have advised motorists to avoid the area, saying the road would remain shut “for some time” as a preliminary investigation is carried out.

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Sadly this is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts remain with everyone involved.

“We believe that the Renault was travelling towards the Betws-y-Coed area with the Daimler travelling in the opposite direction towards Dolwyddelan and I am urging anybody who may have seen either vehicle being driven prior to the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A470 and who may have dash cam footage to contact us immediately.”
