Passport office evacuated after ‘suspicious package’ found as roads closed & cops rush to scene

A PASSPORT office was yesterday evacuated after a “suspicious package” was discovered.

Police and fire crews rushed to the scene in Peterborough amid the panic on Monday evening.

A cordon was in place around Northminster road following the incident.

People were seen gathered on nearby City Road wrapped in blankets amid the concerning scenes.

Cops have now said they are investigating the contents of the package, reports.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said: “We were contacted at about 7.30pm today (May 30) with reports of a suspicious package at the Passport Office in Northminster, Peterborough.

“An investigation is ongoing to establish more information about the contents of the package.

“Road closures and a cordon are in place as a precaution.”

The Sun Online has approached Cambridgeshire Police for comment.
