UK’s cheapest car-park charges just FIVE PENCE an hour – nearly £13 cheaper than the most expensive

THE UK’s cheapest car park charges just 5P an hour – almost £13 an hour less than the country’s most expensive.

For the same price as a supermarket plastic bag thrifty motorists can park up in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

The charge increases for those wanting to stay more than an hour, but motorists still only face forking out 50p for two hours of parking.

At the other end of the scale, parking for up to ten hours at the Railway Street car park is only £8 – still less than the cost of an hour for parking at the UK’s most expensive which is, unsurprisingly, in London.

Brewer Street car park, smack bang in the Capital’s West End, close to Soho and the Theatreland, will cost motorists a cool £13 an hour.

One to two hours will be £26, and two to three hours will cost an eye watering £38.

For drivers staying over three hours, the cost is a stonking £50.

Dewsbury’s bargain parking oasis is located just off the town’s ring road behind the library and Mecca Bingo.

A spokesman for Kirklees Council indicated that the low tariff had been decided on by a private land owner and not council officials.

He said: “The council runs the car park on behalf of the land owner via their managing agent. The prices are set to encourage use and turnover on the site.”
