EVER imagined sipping an ice-cold tequila sunrise after a long backwards run?

No? Well, it’s what we’ll all be doing this summer.

They are just two of an abundance of trends about to shape the coming months. Laura Stott reveals what’s hot . . .

Reverse running: IF someone jogs past you backwards in the park don’t be alarmed, reverse running is the biggest new workout trend – and not just for the novelty factor.

Going backwards apparently helps to reduce injuries and strains, improves balance and burns fat. But watch out for lampposts.

The mixie haircut: A cross between a mullet and a pixie, the mixie is set to be the see-it-everywhere hairdo.

Slightly shaggy, Seventies-inspired, longer at the back (like a mullet) and cropped at the front (like a pixie cut). As seen on celebs such as Demi Lovato, above, it’s considered edgy and it’s coming soon on the bonces of all sexes.

For those who prefer longer hair, the other cool cut is the Shullet — mullet on top, long and shaggy round the sides.

Bermuda shorts: Move over hotpants and breathe a sigh of relief, as this trend is a far more practical option.

Bermudas — knee-length, shapeless and beloved of middle-aged Americans — are this year’s must-have style.

From denim to khaki, patterned to plain, tailored or casual, the longer length is really going to have its moment.

KATE BUSH

THE hit Netflix series Stranger Things has introduced a whole new generation to Kate’s 1985 hit Running Up That Hill, and given the Wuthering Heights legend her first US Top Ten.

It’s also at No2 here, and with a new generation of fans it will be your soundtrack whatever you do in the next few months.

Body chains: As seen on the Chanel catwalk, slim, sparkling body jewellery, most specifically tummy chains, are back. Recently worn by celebs including model Hayley Bieber and, of course, for anyone who was around at the turn of the millennium, originally beloved of singer Christina Aguilera.

The perfect six-pack accessory but not for the faint-hearted.

Copper hair: Pink is so last year — copper is the only colour for your tresses right now.

It is a trend that started on TikTok and is now being requested in salons across the nation.

Anything goes, from deep, rich and shim-mering chestnut hues to brighter, fire-flamed orangey hues. As seen on Gigi Hadid.

Hot smokers: This is the outdoor BBQ essential, according to the latest trend report from Sainsbury’s.

Hot smokers are ideal for infusing fireside flavours into meaty classics such as pulled pork and ribs, or just making your sausages more interesting.

The arrival of mini-smokers makes them much more accessible and affordable. Expect to see — or smell — them in many gardens.

Lurex: The Seventies’ favourite sparkly fabric will be shimmering throughout the season. From skirts to swimwear — perfect for showing off a tan — the metallic yarn will be ubiquitous.

POTATO MILK

JUST as you had started to get used to oat, coconut and soya options in your brew, it’s time to try the latest must-have – a milk alternative made from spuds.

Essentially it’s made up of potato water strained and mixed with a few other ingredients to make a creamy liquid.

Home bars: With going out for Friday night drinks becoming less affordable, home bars will be a big DIY trend.

Whether indoors or out, glam or straightforward, it’ll be bevvies at yours. What time to call last orders is up to you!

Flatforms: Is it a platform shoe? Is it a sandal? No, it’s a Flatform.

The chunky footwear, a trend with strong influences from the Noughties, is set to be the warm weather shoe of choice.

With a thick sole that’s the same height toe to heel, they’ll raise you up — but be careful you don’t fall off them!

Mum jeans: Nothing will date you faster than denim skinnies.

Baggy around the bum, tapered at the ankle, loose “mum-fit” jeans (or mom jeans) is the style to be seen in. They are higher-waisted and you can wear this Eighties-Nineties silhouette anywhere, with anything. Available all over the high street.

Blue paint: Planning on decorating? The only paint to brush on your walls is going to be any shade of blue.

From deep navy to light pastel, blue is the home decor colour right now. Bright Skies is the use-anywhere Dulux colour of the Year 2022.

Wales: Move over, Costa Del Sol – with so many of us holidaying in the UK this year to save pennies, Wales is back in vogue.

The travel review site Tripadvisor has ranked the Welsh towns of Brithdir and Llanberis, both in Gwynedd and close to Snowdonia National Park, as set to be the most popular this year.

Pineapple: The must-have food ingredient, according to Sainsbury's. Expect to suddenly see the punchy tropical fruit on menus and in recipes in everything from sweet to savoury dishes.

At under £1 a pineapple, this is one trend most of us can afford.

Coastal Grandma: It’s not all about the kids.

A seaside fashion “look” originally for older women that started out on TikTok and is about to explode into the mainstream, the Coastal Grandma aesthetic is all about laid-back beachside chic.

Think striped tops, cool white linen, wide-leg pants and straw bags and hats. Like Meryl Streep in the movie It’s Complicated or Gwyneth Pal-trow on holiday in the Hamptons.

Cargo pants: You know where it’s at.

The baggy, low-slung Y2K utility trouser classic – as seen first time around on Noughties girl band All Saints – is back.

TEQUILA SUNRISE

THE Aperol Spritz is over, the only drink to be seen sipping now is a classic cocktail, preferably made with tequila.

Tequila sunrises and margaritas are set to be the most popular as supermarkets report sales of the Mexican spirit surging by more than 127 per cent.
