Central State University active shooter warning as campus goes on lockdown and students are told ‘run, hide, fight’

CENTRAL State University has reportedly issued an active shooter warning as the campus goes into lockdown and students are told to "run, hide, fight".

A Twitter account run by the university claimed a shooter was making their way through Wilberforce campus.

"There is a report of an active shooter on CSU main campus in Wilberforce, Ohio," a .

"RUN, HIDE, FIGHT!"

"The Campus is on LOCKDOWN," it added.

It later emerged that police were investigating a threat at the campus, which is 20 miles outside of Dayton.

Spectrum News 10's Alexa Maslowski tweeted: "University Officials say there is NO active shooter but they are investigating a threat.

"The campus is on lockdown. Those on campus are being told to shelter in place."

Aaron Goldstein, from the same network, followed up: "CSU and Green County Sheriff tell @SpectrumNews1OH there is no active shooter on campus.

"The school says it received a threat & needed to put the school on lock down.

"The school says this is an automated tweet that it sent out to quickly alert the campus. Sheriff says no injuries."

Meanwhile, Greene County Dispatch confirmed no reports of active shooter on campus but that it was under lockdown while police conducted their investigation, according to .

In a statement to the media, Central State University said a person of interest had been taken into custory.

"This morning Central State University received a 911 call from dispatch with reports of what was believed to be an active shooter.

"The University Police Department responded immediately and activated the campus-wide Emergency Alerts System.

"Several nearby law enforcement agencies responded to assist. At the time, the campus is clear and has been deemed safe.

"Upon further investigation, it was determined that there was no threat of an active shooter."

They added: "According to Central State University Police Chief Stephanie Hill, a person of interest has been taken into custody.

"This is still an ongoing investigation."
