‘Hero’ dad, 47, drowns saving two kids from riptide as grieving family pay tribute to ‘devoted and loving father’

A HEROIC dad has drowned after saving two kids from a vicious riptide off the coast of Wales.
Hywel Morgan, 47, had rushed to help after spotting a group of youngsters in difficulty in the sea at Poppit Sands, St Dogmaels, Ceredigion.
The "devoted" dad assisted in the dramatic rescue on Friday evening and managed to save the pair caught in a rip current.
Hywel, who was from the local area, was then recovered from the sea but sadly could not be saved by the emergency services.
The two children were taken to hospital as a precaution, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed.
Cops were called to the popular beauty spot of Poppit Sands in Pembrokeshire at around 8.40pm on Friday.

Hywel's heartbroken family have paid tribute, describing him as "a hero".
They said: "Despite our pain and grief, it gives us comfort that he selflessly tried to prevent others from losing their lives.
"Hyw was a selfless individual who always gave up his time for others.

"He was a devoted and loving father and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
"As a family, we would now like time to grieve and would ask for privacy in which to do so."
