Louisville shooting – Five teenagers wounded in crowds near Big Four Bridge after March For Our Lives anti-gun demo

FIVE teens were shot and wounded near Big Four Bridge in Louisville on Saturday night hours after a March For Our Lives anti-gun demo.

EMS and police arrived just after 9pm to find three juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Major Brian Kuriger.

All three were transported to a hospital in Louisville, Kuriger said.

One of the victims is critical, and the other is suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The condition of the third victim is not known.

Two additional victims showed up at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All five victims were teenagers, Kuriger said.

Police did not have a suspect in custody as of late Saturday.

from WDRB news reporter Breon Martin showed police surrounding the popular tourist area, with crime scene tape blocking areas of the park.

Kuriger urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Louisville Metro Police Department at 574-LMPD (5673).

He also urged parents to supervise their children on the weekends.

“Parents, please, on the weekends … we’re asking you all to step up.

“We need to have supervision down here.

“Please know where your kids are. Know what they’re doing.

“Be down here with them, so that we can stop this violence that’s occurring.

“This is a family area and we want it to stay a family area.”

Kuriger reiterated that the parks in Louisville are safe and that residents should not be deterred from visiting.

He also said that they will be increasing police presence at parks in the area.

“We want people to come down and enjoy the park,” he said.

Police do not yet have a suspect and LMPD’s Homicide Unit is handling the investigation, according to .

The Big Four Bridge is located in downtown Louisville.

The shooting occurred just hours after kids and teens gathered outside of Metro Hall as part of the March for Our Lives movement against gun violence.

Tens of of demonstrators have rallied across the country to call for stricter gun laws in the wake of two mass shootings this year.

There was panic and chaos when an anti-gun protestor stormed the stage during the March for Our Lives rally in Washington DC.

The man allegedly threw an object into the crowd as they took a moment of silence marking the Uvalde school shooting and screamed “I am the gun,” as he was detained.

People were seen cowering on the floor or running away during the chaos that lasted only a short time.

One speaker, Erica Ford, with the New York City Crisis Management System yelled into the crowd, “do not run,”  reports.

Speakers on the stage later assured the crowd that the man was not armed and they were not in danger.

The incident happened on the National Mall.

Some 19 children and two adults were killed in the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

Days earlier, another 10 people were killed when a gunmen opened fire in Buffalo, New York.
