Anna Haigh, 20, had no bump or idea she was pregnant and thought she was suffering from back pain - but the agony turned out to be contractions

AN A-level  student who went to hospital with backache and ended up giving birth is now training to be a doctor.

Shocked Anna Haigh, 20, had no bump or idea she was pregnant and thought she was suffering from a slipped disc - but the agony turned out to be contractions.

Remarkably, 9-stone Anna kept her size 8 figure throughout her pregnancy and was amazed when baby Oliver came into the world weighing a healthy 8lb 1oz.

Despite the surprise delivery, she is pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor and has just started medical school at Liverpool University - a full-time seven-year course - AND works as a waitress on a Sunday.

Just seven days after giving birth, Anna sat her A-level maths exam - scoring an incredible A* and 100 percent in two of her papers.

Anna, from Warrington, Cheshire, said: "It was crazy. I thought it was just something minor.

"I went to A&E with my mum and they put me on a bed on a ward and started taking a blood test and put me on painkillers.

"Nobody knew what was wrong with me and I only found out I was pregnant when my waters suddenly broke on the bed.

"They kept telling me I was having a baby but it wouldn't sink in.”

She added: "I've always been slim and all my mates joke about where I put it all because I'm forever eating rubbish.

"I thought I had put on a slight bit of weight under my ribs but I had no sign of a bump.

"I never really weigh myself but my clothes didn't even feel any tighter.”

Anna went into labour at around 10am on May 14 at Warrington Hospital.

Next she phoned boyfriend of three years James Fisher, 20, to break the news that he'd just become a dad.

"He'd known I'd gone to A&E and I'd told him not to worry.

"So when I rang he asked me how it had gone and that's when I said 'James, you're a dad'.

"He couldn't understand what I was saying and I had to keep repeating it."

Shocked  James, 20, said: “I held Oliver for the first time and  it was incredible.”

The high-school sweethearts are now adjusting to their new life with a newborn.
