‘TORY SCUM GET OUT OF BRUM’

Placard-waving protesters descend on Tory party conference and demand snap general election

Cops estimated 20,000 demonstrators took to Birmingham’s streets today as polls show Conservatives would quadruple majority of MPs in Parliament if there was an early vote

PEOPLE attending the Conservative Party’s conference were met by anti-Tory protesters brandishing aggressive placards.

The protest was organised by trade unions and anti-austerity groups who took to the streets of Birmingham today as the Tory party kicked-off their four day event.

Some demonstrators, totalling around 20,000 according to cops, held up placards that used rhyme to get their message across with one reading: “Tory scum get out of Brum.”

Meanwhile others took on a more sinister tone, such as “the only cuts that we need are Tories on the guillotine.”

A large security wall has been set up to protect people attending the conference which some protesters compared to Donald Trump’s plans to build a wall on the Mexican border.

Others branded former Prime Minister David Cameron as a “financial terrorist and fascist”.

Some have also demanded a snap general election, echoing Jeremy Corbyn’s speech at the Labour Party conference earlier this week, in which he said he would be ready for an early trip to the polls.

This comes despite fresh polling information showing that the Tories could increase their majority of MPs in the House of Commons four-fold if there was an early election.

However, current Prime Minister Theresa May has ruled out a vote before 2020 and announced this morning that Britain will leave the EU by April 2019.

Appearing on the Andrew Marr show, she said she would trigger Article 50 by “the end of March next year”, which will start the formal process of Brexit that is expected to last two years.

She said this morning: “As you know, I have been saying that we wouldn't trigger it before the end of this year so that we get some preparation in place.

“But yes, I will be saying in my speech today that we will trigger [Article 50] before the end of March next year.”

Mrs May opened the conference this afternoon with a speech to her party, her first as their leader.
