Man & woman in their 70s found dead at home in sleepy village as cops launch investigation

A MAN and a woman have been found dead in a remote Dorset village.

The casualties, both of whom were in their 70s, died at a home in Gifle View, Thornford.

Cops were called to reports that the woman had suddenly died just after 6am today.

Officers and paramedics dashed to the scene, but found both bodies inside.

Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation Team is leading a probe into the horror.

The man's family has been informed. However, officers have so far been unable to track down the woman's family.

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour said both casualties were known to each other.

“This is a very sad incident and we are doing all we can to support the family of the man," he said.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened.

"A cordon is in place to allow for an examination of the scene to take place.

“At this time, it is not believed anyone else was involved in the incident.

"Enquiries will continue to find out the full circumstances surrounding the deaths."

He called for anyone with information on the tragedy to come forward.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area and we would encourage anyone to contact officers from the local neighbourhood policing team if they have any concerns or information," he said.
