Male bees’ testicles EXPLODE when they reach orgasm
Unlucky creatures lose their lives as soon as they lose their virginity - and they're not the only creatures whose lusty libidos force them into 'suicide sex'
You've probably heard men saying they "got lucky" and somehow persuaded a lady to have sex with them.
But if bees could speak, there is absolutely no way they would say the same thing.
It turns out that male honeybees' testicles EXPLODE when they reach orgasm, killing the poor insects.
Vicki Sims, a 45-year-old beekeeper and pest controller from London, uses YouTube to spread the buzz about her passions.
She told Time Out that bloke bees pay a heavy price for satisfying their libido.
"I like to educate people," she said.
This mating practice is known as "suicide sex". Animals such as the antechinus (pictured above) first exhaust themselves trying to compete against other mates, before being finished off when they finally get (un)lucky.
'There's orgies of violence and sex and, in antechinus, it happens every year," Dr Andrew Baker, a mammologist at the Queensland University of Technology, .
'They'll bleed internally, they have ulcers, their fur falls off in patches, sometimes they're stumbling around blind and still trying to mate."
And we've all known someone like that, haven't we?
