FIFTEEN suspected migrants, including one child, have been found packed in a freezer lorry carrying potatoes.

The group was discovered after the driver heard banging at Clacket Lane Services on the Kent stretch of the M25 - which is one of the first major service stations on the motorway from Dover and Folkestone.

Since they were found this morning, 11 men have been arrested by police on suspicion of entering the UK illegally.

These 11 include five who say they are minors.

A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed the arrests and added: "One of the men was taken ill at the scene and was taken to hospital, where he remains.

“The five other men have been passed to immigration officials for their cases to be progressed and the five claimed minors will be passed into the care of social services to be age assessed.

“A family of four, including two children, was also encountered at the scene. They are due to be interviewed by immigration officials.

“The nationalities of the 15 are not known at this stage.

“Where someone is found to have no right to remain in the UK, we will take action to remove them.”

The desperate group had been tucked in the freezing -25C section of the white HGV, with the driver hearing a loud banging coming from inside the vehicle when he stopped off at a service station.

They were treated at the scene by ambulance crews.

Surrey Police shut down the main slip road into the petrol station with the group detained on suspicion of illegal entry.

Surrey Police said they had been called about 10.15am.

In a statement, police said: "The driver of a white heavy articulated freezer lorry, who was travelling northbound, stopped at the service station after reporting he had heard loud banging coming from inside the vehicle.

"15 people were discovered in the rear of the lorry."

Police confirmed that 14 adults and one child had been found with the driver of the vehicle currently assisting police with their enquiries.

The investigation has now been passed to UK Visas and Immigration Service.
