Pilot snaps mysterious red glow over Atlantic Ocean ‘like Water Gate portal from Stranger Things’
EERIE photos have emerged showing a mysterious red glow over the Atlantic Ocean.
The scarlet hue was allegedly snapped last week by a dazzled pilot who said they had “never seen anything like it.”
The image, posted on Reddit, quickly spawned a frenzy of theories and comments from bemused sci-fi fans who drew comparisons to Netflix’s hit show Stanger Things.
Several users said it resembled the show’s terrifying alternate dimension - which envelopes the sky in red light.
In particular, they likened it to the portal at the bottom of Lovers Lake – as seen in Season 4.

One user wrote: "Dustin's trying to open up a portal to the upside down - it is literally a watergate," referring to one of the scenes.
While another doomsday fan quipped: “Don't worry it's just the pits of hell staring back at you.”
But much to the dismay of UFO-lovers, the explanation for the red glow was slightly anti-climatic.
The mesmerising glow was actually coming from a fishing ship.

According to experts, fisherman normally use hundreds of LED lights on their boat’s perimeters to attract the saury breed of fish, allowing them to be easily scooped up in nets.
Saury is a seafood in several East Asian cuisines and is also known by the name mackerel pike.
Lights are placed under the water which reflect off particles and enhance a natural food source for bait.
The technique is said to be utilised in parts of the Atlantic close to the island of Bermuda where the Atlantic variation of saury is said to be found.
Last week, a mother was convinced she was seeing something out of the hit show when she captured a stunning pink illumination in the night sky.
Tammy Szumowski, from Victoria, Australia, told how she was so intrigued by the rosy haze, she quickly hopped in her car to find the source of it.
She was alerted to the fluorescent display when her mother called her to ask if she'd seen "this weird pink light in the sky".
The mum told Daily Mail Australia: "We had that many comments, saying is it an asteroid or a comet, is it the upside-down world from Stranger Things the TV show, is it aliens?

"It was very bizarre looking and we had no idea what it was.
"I called my mum back when we stopped the car at my uncle's and got out to take photos, and my dad was saying he better hurry up and finish his dinner as the world is ending."
