THE temperature is expected to hit a rather balmy 27C tomorrow – and the mercury is due to go even higher over the weekend.

After some early morning cloud cover first thing on Friday most parts in the UK will bask in long periods of glorious sunshine although some places will see some patchy, cloudy weather.

There is also a threat of some isolated showers although these will mostly be light.

Southern areas are forecast to see the best of the weather which could get some light winds as well.

Outbreaks of rain will spread across the north-west during the evening and may be heavy.

Temperatures are likely to climb even higher over the weekend and could hit a peak of 29C on Sunday.

Saturday could see some light rain first thing but this will clear away bringing bright sunshine and a few clouds.

Sunday should be better still although there could be a chance of some light showers.

Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir said: “Over the next few days apart from a few showers most places will be dry and warm. However, into the weekend it warms up further across more southern and eastern areas whereas to the north and west fresher with outbreaks of rain.”

As for today, it is due to be a fine day for most areas with the temperature in the 20Cs.

Ms Nasir said: "A milder start to the day come Thursday morning and bright for most as well as dry.

"However let’s pick up on this showery rain across northern England, southern Scotland, just coming and going sporadic in nature but some showers developing through the afternoon, they will be slow moving and they could even turn out to be heavy.

"Elsewhere a few showers likely, most places dry and we will see a mix of cloud as well as sun, so a fine afternoon, a bright one with some sunshine coming through allowing temperatures to rise very nicely.

“Feeling warm in that sunshine, a pleasant afternoon for Shetland as well as Orkney, temperatures further south 20-22C, 24C for southern parts of Wales, 25C for London and the home counties."
