Dramatic moment mother and baby are dragged from sinking car by cops after Hurricane Matthew floods swathes of North Carolina
Devastation in the US came as Haiti began three days of national mourning
THIS is the incredible moment a mother and baby is rescued by cops after being trapped on the roof of their car as the flooding of Hurricane Matthew continues to cause a trail of death and destruction in the US.
Footage filmed by the shows officers driving around the flooded streets of Fayetteville, in North Carolina, after nearly 15 inches of rain fell on Saturday.
They spot a woman wearing a red coat holding her small child stranded on their stalled white vehicle submerged in flood water.
In the clip, an officer can be heard yelling: "Hold on, we're coming! Don't move until we tell you."
Cops approach the pair with their special military vehicle used to drive through high waters.
The terrified baby is then plucked from the woman's arms as she climbs into the truck.
Police posted the clip on Facebook to warn others to stay off the dangerous roads.
They wrote: "Everyone please stay indoors! The roads are flooding throughout the city of Fayetteville!"
Fayetteville police say they have made during the hurricane, according to ABC affiliate WTVD.

On Saturday, the centre of Matthew made landfall in the South Carolina town of McClellanville and there was a "serious inland flooding event unfolding," the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said.
McClellanville is about 35 miles (56 kilometres) northeast of Charleston.
But tiny Haiti bore the brunt of the tragedy as it announced the deaths of almost 500 people on Saturday.
The impoverished country is expecting to see that number rise further still.
