A ‘stinger’ burst the tyres and brought the cop car to a halt more than 200 miles away from Camelford police station in Cornwall, where it was stolen.

The thieves took the car for a 200-mile ride before being stopped on the motorway

A police spokesman said "The car was spotted on the M4 heading east.

"Officers used a stinger device to bring the car to a stop near junction 7 and arrest the occupants.

"They are now being held at Newquay Police Station on suspicion of burglary, theft and dangerous driving."

Police took to social media to show the damage to the car, which was badly dented at the front after apparently crashing at high speed.

Dozy cops at Devon and Cornwall Police are now 'reviewing security' after admitting they left the keys lying about – despite constantly reminding people not to leave keys in hallways or on kitchen tables where burglars can easily find them and steal cars parked outside.
