CHILLING footage of a clown armed with a knife rattling doors and peering into windows as he tries to break into a home has been released.

The creepy clown can be seen prowling around the home with the huge blade, trying to get into the house just before 2.30am on the 9th of October.

The clown first tries what appears to be the front door before walking calmly down the driveway to try the backdoor.

The clown, dressed in traditional garb and with an orange wig, then gets through the black fence, finally peering through the glass door at the home's back.

He then continues his attempts to get in, peering through a window before swapping his knife into another hand.

The CCTV footage shows the clown then walking around the backyard of the Texan home.

The video was released on LiveLeak with the individual uploading the footage saying: "This morning I noticed my gate was open.

"I checked my surveillance cameras and found someone in a clown costume was trying to get into my house.

"I'm sure we would all be dead today if he was able to get in."

While most of the footage captured on the CCTV is black and white, the moment the clown walks to the back of the home is in colour.

But the clown's apparent knowledge of the home has sparked comments that it is a staged video.

One person commented on the video saying the video was "staged" while another threatened: "If your (sic) going to claim to be a Texan don't do stupid videos faked by you... you might meet a real clown because of your clown tricks."

It comes as the trend of dressing up as clowns to scare members of the public has taken off across the world, including in the UK and America.

Police have warned those trying to pull off the pranks could be arrested, with the chilling epidemic even seeing men dressed as clowns trying to lure kids into the woods.

US police have issued numerous safety warnings with UK police also saying they had received a number of reports of clowns wandering around the streets.
