The Koblenz public prosecutor’s office said on Monday afternoon that the woman from St Wendel “slipped from her seat before she fell off from a height of about eight meters”.

Authorities said she had died at the scene.

Officials are working on the cause of death and if it “was the result of the fault of a third party”.

"The investigation is still ongoing," said a police spokesman.

The wildlife and leisure park in Klotten is mainly popular at families.

One of the biggest attractions at the park is The Hot Ride, which opened in 2004 and is a 532 metre-long rollercoaster with a height of 17.5 metres.

The amusement park advertises the ride as being “not for the faint-hearted”.

It says: "A lot of curves, maximum gradient and up to 60 kilometers per hour, it can take your breath away and your heart leave its usual place."
