The first thing I bought when I won the lottery was super-practical – there’s no point going crazy

A LOTTERY winner kept her cool when deciding on her first purchase — splashing out on an air conditioning system.

Suzy Fenton, 44, landed the £10,000 a month for a year prize on the Set For Life game this month.

But her win came as the nation wilted under record temperatures.

So her first splurge was a £600 cooling unit for her home in Wakefield.

She said: “It was obviously super-practical but we were able to cool off.”

Customer services worker Suzy also plans to spend her winnings on clearing debts, laser eye surgery and visiting pals in Canada and the US.

She added: “I’m going to carry on working for now, but it allows me so much more freedom to know things are going to be paid off.”

When Suzy told partner Ian, he thought she was joking.

She said: "My first reaction was one of pure disbelief, even when they told me.

"It's only when I saw that first payment go into my account that it really hit home."
