In South Wales Police attended numerous reports as police are reporting more and more sightings and in Leicestershire, one woman was scared so badly she went into early labour as the craze continues to baffle much of the UK.

The decision was then made to text all parents to suggest if their child normally walks home alone, they come and pick them up.

Angela Huthart, head of Hollingwood Primary School, near Chesterfield, said it had been an "upsetting" day for everyone.

She said: "A pupil arrived and told staff that someone dressed as a clown waved at him from Hollingwood Park while he was walking to school.

" We called the child's parents and the police. The police visited the school and searched the area. This was an upsetting incident for the pupil involved and for everyone at the school.

We sent a text to our parents so that they were aware, and so that they could make arrangements to collect their children if they usually walked home alone from school."

The craze to dress up like a clown and scare people is causing chaos in the UK, as sightings of chilling circus acts brandishing weapons have become more common over the past month.

Police have warned that people could be arrested if they celebrate Halloween by dressing up like a killer clown.

Drivers in Manchester were startled to see two clowns running at their cars on Sunday, and a mum-of-two was left with terrified children after one jumped on her car.

And on Monday morning, an Instagram account promised 20 clowns with knives would descend on Essex schools this week.
