Man arrested for attempted murder after woman was ‘set on fire’ in quiet Oxford village

The extent of the victim's injuries are not known

COPS have quizzed a man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was "set on fire".

The man was arrested after a woman was taken to hospital following a blaze at a house in Blackbird Leys, Oxford, yesterday morning.

The extent of the victim's injuries are not known.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, claimed the injured woman had been set on fire and was taken away in an ambulance.

Other residents claimed there were about 12 people living in the house and said the victim was of Asian ethnicity.

Police and fire crews attended the scene and a cordon was put in place.

A Thames Valley police spokesperson said: "Thames Valley Police was called to reports of a fire at Balfour Road at 10.09am today.

"A woman was injured in a fire at a property at this location. The woman has been taken to hospital.

"The road is currently closed and there is a scenewatch in place.

"The investigation its early stage but we are conducting house to house enquiries in the area."

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Emily Reed said a crew had been sent to the road was unable to provide further details.
