A DAD almost lost his finger and needed hours of surgery after being bitten by a poisonous false widow spider.

Adam Roberts, 37, said he was nipped in his sleep at a caravan park.

He woke to find his finger so swollen that he could not take off his wedding ring.

Dad-of-two Adam drove home from Skegness, Lincs, to Poole in Dorset, but sought medical help when the swelling spread to his elbow.

The mortgage adviser said: “The surgeon said I needed surgery immediately.

“The bite had got infected and my finger was dying.

“They said there was a 90 per cent chance I’d lose it.”

It was saved, but he now must wait months to see if he will ever be able to move the finger.
